During autumn and spring, thousands of migratory birds and bats use the Baltic - White Sea migration route. The most patient birdwatchers can catch nearly every Latvian bird species in autumn!

Pape serves as a home to a significant number of endangered European bird species, such as, the great bittern, little bittern, black stork, Montagu's harrier, Eurasian crane, little crake and spotted crake. It also has the greylag goose, which is listed in the Red Data Book of Latvia, as well as a great many other species of bird.

To comfortably observe the inhabitants of Lake Pape, head to the birdwatching hide next to the Kalnišķi streem.
